Vacuum box testing is used to examine small and specific areas for defects, flaws, leaks or other imperfections. Anywhere a pressure differential may be produced over the testing area is suitable for doing a vacuum box test. Vacuum box tests are frequently utilized in pipe systems, pressure vessels, storage tanks, ships, oil rig bottom plates, tank shell to bottom plate knuckle, and tanks bottom floor. Before putting the vacuum box in place, the test area is sprayed with soapy water. A vacuum pump creates a vacuum inside the box, and the sites of leaks or weld faults are shown by soap bubbles.
